Our eighth Carolcade took place on the 4th December at the Bacon Theatre, where members of our church were joined by The Leckhampton Church of England Junior School Choir in celebration of Christmas. We could hear every word and enjoyed their sweet singing and happy faces when they sang "Rejoice, Rejoice", "So many Centuries" and the "Light of Love” which was written by Adrian Scarrett (who was a member of our Church). They were led by their teacher Jo Thomas and were joined for "Candlelight Carol" by Helen Wilson, our Vocal Soloist for the evening. Helen delighted us with her contributions to the evening with a Spanish and Italian Carol and an arrangement by Harold Darke of "In the Bleak Midwinter", accompanied beautifully by Captain Steve Smith on the Piano and Kevin Lark on the Classical guitar.
The Salvation Army Band played "Christmas Rejoicing" and "Away in a Manger" and The Worship Band led us in singing and thinking about the reason for the season, whilst "Folk On" entertained us with their own particular thoughts on Christmas! The puppets also proclaimed the Christmas message "Extra Extra" in their own inimitable way.
We could all join the nativity scene portrayed so beautifully by the children of our church with the title of "O Come let us Adore Him".
The Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Barbara Driver, read the two bible readings of the Story of the Birth of Jesus. The programme was so ably compered by The Rev. Richard Atkins, who is a presenter on the Local Radio Station, BBC Radio Glos.
If you would like a date for your diary, our Carolcade for 2012 will be on Sunday 16th December.
